ITANAGAR, Feb 19: Two power department employees working on a power line during load-
There was a power cut between 6.30 am to 7.30 am and a junior engineer of the department who was overseeing the work allegedly did not inform the power house about maintenance work being carried out, the sources said.
The power house at Chandranagar without knowing that work was reportedly going on switched on the power supply that led to the two deaths, sources added. However, police launched investigation into the case.
The two dead were identified as lineman Godapani Das and casual worker Ram Ferrai. A third employee Tikaram Chetri was admitted to the Rama Krishna Mission Hospital here in a serious condition, the sources said.
A case was registered against the junior engineer Karan Singh, who was manhandled by power department employee, they said.
Meanwhile, Jalley Sonam, Chairman APB&OCWWB and Changma Tajo Secretary General along with executive members of AAPWU immediately rushed to the RK Mission Hospital. Sonam while providing some cash to the members of dead and injured termed the incident very unfortunate. Tongam Rina attack case: Reward increased to 10 lakh
ITANAGAR, Feb 19: Eventhough more than six months have passed since Associate Editor of The Arunachal Times Tongam Rina was shot at the Capital Police says that it will leave no stone unturned to solve the case by arresting the culprit(s) involved in the heinous crime.
Refraining themselves from divulging details of their ‘continued’ investigation for ‘sake of investigation’, Capital SP in a release, said that “State police shall left no stone unturned to arrest the culprits”.
The City police have also decided to increase the reward from Rs. two lakh to Rs.10 lakh to informer, who provide specific information leading to arrest of the culprits involved in the incident.
“This reflects the sincerity and commitment of State Govt for early arrest of culprits involved in this inhumane attack on Tongam Rina, the Associate Editor of The Arunachal Times,” asserted the SP.

involved in previous incidences of attack on press/media offices have been picked
and interrogated. One hundred (approx) suspected persons with criminal background

FCI and food & civil suppliesdept. hold crucial meeting on HTS
ITANAGAR, Feb 19: The Department of Food and Civil Supplies today conducted a coordination meeting with P. Basumatary, Executive Director, FCI North East Zone and his team of officers in the Conference Hall of the Director of Food & Civil Supplies regarding smooth functioning of PDS in the state. The meeting mainly discussed on the issues relating to long pending Hill Transport Subsidy bills of the state with FCI including other issues like storage facilities.
The coordination meeting was concluded successfully as many pending issues which
remained unsolved due to communication gap in between State Govt and FCI was sorted
out in the meeting as all the District Food & Civil Supply Officers present gave

PASIGHAT, Feb 19: Reiterating their demand for exclusion of Adi villages of Nari Koyu constituency and Adi land from the proposed Lower Siang district, the Adi people living in East Siang, Upper Siang, Dibang Valley and Lohit districts today pledged to fight until their demands are met.
Taking part in a mass rally jointly organized by Adi Students Union (AdiSU) and Adi Bane Kebang (ABK) at Pasighat market today, the people gave the state government 30 days to clear its stand over demarcation of boundary between East Siang and Lower Siang district.
Addressing the rally, ABK President Kangir Jamoh said state government gave nod for creation of Lower Siang district including parts of East Siang, without taking consensus of Adi people living in East Siang district. He said the state government, despite repeated pleas did not listen to its demand.

ABK secretary (HQ) Tabung Ering, in his address said that the movement initiated by ABK and its allies is not to target any community or ethic group, but to protect their land for future existence. Extortion threat: BJP demands adequate security
ITANAGAR, Feb. 19: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP, Arunachal Pradesh strongly condemned the reported extortion notice and threat to the Principal of Vivekenanda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV) School, Balijan by some underground elements active in the boundary areas.

Four houses gutted in Banskota
PASIGHAT, Feb 19: Four OBT houses of Narendra Upadhaya, Prem Bahadur Chettry, Dandi Norbu residing at Banskota were reduced to ashes in a massive fire that broke out at 3.30 am this morning. The nearby RCC house of Talem Siram was also badly damaged. The fire destroyed all the household items of all the four families of OBT houses.
Education Minister Bosiram Siram along with East Siang Deputy Commissioner R K Mishra, SP Pushpendra Kumar and DDMO Ganden Tsomu and local officers and leaders visited the spot and took stock of the situation and directed the authority concern to asses the extent of damages and loss.
Siram who is also local MLA handed over twenty five thousand, one hundred pieces CGI sheets and five thousand cash (for procurement of bamboos) to the DC for distribution to the victims as immediate relief from his end.
Expressing his grief and sorrow, the minister appealed the colony dwellers to make proper installation of electrical connections/wires by trained technicians and use candle and other inflammable items carefully while stating that fire accidents are common in the town especially during the winter. He further assured to take up the issue with the concerned ministry on priority for rehabilitation of the victims and also appealed to the neighbors to come forward to extend their help to the fire victims.
The Deputy Commissioner RK Mishra granted fifteen thousand in total to the fire victims (for all five families) as immediate relief. He informed that police investigation is on to unearth the actual cause of the fire mishap. DIPRO

Sanjoy releases Galo audio album ‘Neli Giitem’
ITANAGAR, Feb 19: Member of Parliament Takam Sanjoy released a Galo audio CD ‘Neli Giitem’ in a simple but impressive function at a city hotel here this evening.
There are eight songs in the CD in total sung by Ririk Karlo Digbak, Jumken Rallen Kipa, Liduk Padu and Mori. The music is composed by Shyam, Topon and Krishna. The title song “Neli Giitem” is written by Dr.Takop Zirdo.
“The songs are worth listening,” Sanjoy, who listened to all the songs after releasing the CD, opined. He praised the effort of singer cum producer Jumken Rallen Kipa and wished her and other singers of the CD a bright future.
Describing the importance of music in life, Sanjoy said that life will become so boring without music. It is also a powerful tool through which we can spread message and communicate with masses in ways that no other medium can, he added.
According to the producer, 10,000 copies of the CD have already been booked in advance. The CDs will be available in market from February 20 in various parts of the district.

Provide relief to Sigin fire victims: AAPSU
ITANAGAR, Feb 19: All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has urged the Upper Subansiri Deputy Commissioner to provide immediate relief to the fire victims of Sigin Colony Daporijo.
AAPSU General Secretary Biru Nasi accompanied by the Union’s assistant general secretary (admin) met the Deputy Commissioner and urged him to demand for one more fire tender in the district headquarters in view of the frequent fire incidents in Daporijo. They also urged the state Government to consider the demand and provide adequate relief to the victims.
While lauding the efforts of Tagin Cultural Society in extending all possible help and support to the victims, the AAPSU general secretary appealed to all to extend support to TCS in their noble cause.
Meanwhile, the DC apprised the AAPSU team about shortage of staff and appealed to the Government to depute the required officials for smooth functioning of the administration.
The General Secretary urged the general people of Upper Subansiri to take the incident as eye opener and take adequate and appropriate preventive measures to avoid such incident in future.

Maldives to become biosphere reserve
Maldives is set to become the first nation when the island nation, together with its exclusive economic zone, will become a Biosphere Reserve. According to Dr Mariyam Shakeela, Minister of Environment and Energy, Republic of Maldives, the whole country of Maldives will be a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve by 2017 – where public support for conservation of the country’s remarkable environment secures a vibrant green economy and a good quality of life for all Maldivians.
Biosphere reserves, or areas of terrestrial and coastal ecosystems promoting solutions to reconcile the conservation of biodiversity with its sustainable use, are internationally recognized, nominated by national governments and remain under sovereign jurisdiction of the states where they are located. Biosphere reserves serve in some ways as 'living laboratories' for testing out and demonstrating integrated management of land, water and biodiversity. Collectively, biosphere reserves form a world network: the World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR).
Within this network, exchanges of information, experience and personnel are facilitated. There are over 500 biosphere reserves in over 100 countries.
The pledge by the Maldive comes in response to the call to Parties, partners and other stakeholders to take urgent action towards achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets, made at the eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 11) in Hyderabad, India, and builds on the announcement made at the Rio+20 Conference.

Through your esteem daily, it is to inform to general public that on the night of 16th February at around 11 PM one speeding vehicle knock down Kenge Ado, an Assistant Sub Inspector (APP) who was coming back to his residence after curtsy visit to a friend who got operated recently. The incident happened near Old Deputy Commissioner Office, Naharlagun and the driver sped away without caring about the ailing person. Not even that, the person who was following the vehicle which intentionally hit the police officer also did not try to help him to get medical treatment. ASI Ado somehow managed to raise his hand hoping to get help from the passing vehicle but in vain. After a while Yukar Taw, a true dedicated social worker who was passing through same road found Ado in pool of blood and immediately rushed him to General Hospital, Naharlagun without a second thought. This act of Yukar Taw is really a commendable and praiseworthy act and we don’t have any appropriate word to convey our gratitude to him.

Betrayal after betrayal
Dear Editor,
Before our memory fades lets us recollect the news item that appeared in this esteemed daily on 25.12.2012, which reported “Major Issue faced by the Gurkha and Yobins of Vijaynagar was solved on spot, by Nabam Tuki, the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh by distributing PRC certificates to few senior citizens and has directed all others to apply for the same and collect from the office of the circle officer.
On 17.02.2013 While sipping a nice cup of tea in the morning and going through this
esteemed paper to find out what is going on in my state, I was deeply hurt and felt
once again betrayed by the Government, on coming to learned that the government’s
high power committee formed for recommendation of granting PRC to non-
We the Yobin people have faced betrayal and nothing else from the Government of Arunachal, and every time a new government is formed we looked forward that our grievances will be addressed but nothing happens apart from empty promises, and we are back to square one with deprivation and discrimination.
The Yobins have a long historical attachment with Arunachal Pradesh since North Eastern
Frontier Agency days and as such one of the aboriginal tribe of the state which fact
is acknowledged by the other brother’s of Changlang district that is Tangsas and
the Singphos. And it is an open fact that we have been demanding for the restoration
of our schedule tribe status for the past 40 years or so therefore non-
I have no hard feelings with our Gurkha brothers I am only trying to make my point across the table is that we are the indigenous tribe of Arunachal Pradesh as such only Granting PRC to us tagging with other Non APST is not going to help us. We demand our Schedule Tribe status, if the government feels Gurkhas should be given PRC is upto them without floating the laws and rules mend for the protection of the tribal people. Let every right thinking citizen of Arunachal spare a few minutes of their valuable time and ponder upon this issue, lest 10 years from now we may wonder, What have we done?.
